Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many weddings are being postponed and rescheduled and many brides are finding themselves with a dress that they think won’t work for a different time of year. But fear not, ladies! We’re here to help.
First, let’s tackle an easy update: Summer to Winter. If you originally bought your dress for a summer wedding and are now finding yourself with a chance of snow, the easiest way to update your look is with a jacket. Bridal jackets these days are a lot cooler than you might think. You can go for a lace bomber, a custom jean jacket or even leather. Adding a faux fur wrap is also a great option. If you’re worried about the fabric of your gown being too light or sheer for winter, try adding a slip dress underneath for an added layer. But, also remember that for the most part, you’re probably going to be inside so something removable like a jacket or a wrap is your best option.
For Winter to Summer, your motto should really be less is more! If you originally wanted to wear a dress with long sleeves for your winter wedding, think about having a trained seamstress remove the sleeve for a strappy look. Or, make them detachable so you can change up your look from ceremony to reception! Keep your accessories light and airy so your wedding dress doesn’t feel too heavy and more season-appropriate. Shoes are also a really great way to update your look between seasons. Opt for an open-toed sandal for a Summer wedding or strappy wedges if you’re having an outdoor ceremony.
For Fall weddings, we love a detachable sleeve. Detachable sleeves can be added to almost any style but we recommend them for strapless wedding dresses. A long bell sleeve adds a romantic element to your Fall wedding, while something like a blouson sleeve gives your dress a vintage feeling. The thing we love most about sleeves is how versatile they are. If you’re having an early Fall wedding, the weather may still be hot so having removable sleeves is a great way to make sure you’re not too hot. The same thing applies to late Fall weddings. Sleeves add just enough coverage to keep you warm and comfortable as temperatures drop.
Spring weddings in general are always going to be a little tricky when it comes to the weather. From late snowstorms to rain showers to the perfect spring day, you need to be prepared for anything! We suggest adding some cute arm cuffs to your look to really bring out the springtime vibes. Opt for a fringe cuff for a boho look or something with feather for a more glam style.
Another great way to change up your look is with an overskirt. An overskirt changes your look completely! Let’s say you bought a smooth crepe gown for your late Summer wedding and now your early Spring wedding is going to be a major temperature change. What do you do? Adding an overskirt takes your wedding look from minimal to classic bridal in a snap. Giving your dress a little more weight will help make it feel cold-weather appropriate.
